NetDoctor to launch online TV service

netdoc Hearst Digital's health and wellbeing website NetDoctor is to launch a TV service later this month.

NetDoctor, which was bought by the company in 2006, follows other Hearst Digital sites Getlippy, Cosmo and Handbag.com in introducing a video element.

"We have commissioned a series of wellness videos, the first few of which will be coming out in due course," Hearst Digital managing director Alex Ballantyne told Journalism.co.uk.

"In addition to that we have a partnership with the Department of Health which has allowed us to use some of their proprietary video assets that are current displayed throughout its health portal Choices.

"It's everything from an eminent doctor or consultant talking about self-care to assessing and getting the best out of the health service in terms of being a patient.

"There is a whole spectrum of them, about 150 videos that we have entered into an agreement to get access to."

The introduction of the TV service, he added, was part of shifting NetDoctor to focus more on 'wellness and prevention' through the introduction of How To guides to simple health tips.

NetDoctor has also entered a collaboration with Zest magazine to introduce more 'healthy living' content to the site.

In addition to this, the Audit Bureau of Circulations Electronic (ABCE) released data this week that showed NetDoctor recorded a year-on-year increased of unique user visiting the site of 22 per cent.

Monthly users increased from 2,529,938 in March 2007 to 3,078,277 in March 2008.

Page views rose from 7,958,545 to 9,683,340 over the same period.
