Saying she's sick of the "sex, drugs and sleaze on screen," Christina Ricci said she wants to dedicate her career to making films for the family.
It's odd to hear Ricci say this, as her roles have been anything but wholesome on the screen.
She said about her change in direction, that "I wanted to do a kids movie again. I wanted to do a family film. There are so many family movies for kids but they don't actually teach you anything.
"Speed Racer really stresses integrity and morals and a love of family, and that's something I think is really important and a trend we need to bring back."
Not only is Ricci fighting to get more roles like this, but she's urging Hollywood to follow in those footsteps as well.
From a career perspective, this is a good idea for Ricci, as a number of actors who have committed to long-term careers, rather than fleeting stardom, has successfully navigated this path.
You don't hear about them much because they're more dedicated to their craft and projects, than they are about being stars.
I have to admit I would have never thought I would have heard Christina Ricci say this, although I'm glad she did. Hopefully this isn't just an announcement to primarily promote Speed Racer.
She does star as Trixie in "Speed Racer," by The Wachowski Brothers, which opens in theaters Friday.
