China raises interest rates BEIJING (AP) It is one of the world's hottest economies and regulators are making another modest attempt to cool it.

China's central bank has raised its key interest rates today, as the government tries to reel in its economy amid inflation worries.

The move comes a day after the government said the second quarter saw the fastest growth rate since 1995.

It is the fifth time since April 2006 that the central bank has raised key interest rates.

China's communist leaders want fast growth to reduce poverty but are trying to cool some industries. They worry that runaway investment could ignite inflation or a debt crisis.

Along with the interest rate hikes, they have also imposed investment curbs on some industries.
